About The Role
Working on top of worldwide research content & knowledge, our Machine Learning & Data Engineering team explores new ideas and develops novel, AI-powered solutions which help publishers & researchers to know more, do more & achieve more.
We are looking for talented and self-directed Big Data and Search engineers to expand our AI/ML & Data engineering team in the areas of:
- Information retrieval and (semantic) search
- Large scale distributed data aggregation, analysis, processing and indexing
- Content-based recommendation & similarity analysis
- Entity disambiguation
As an integral member of our AI / R&D team, you will be responsible for modelling, indexing and processing worldwide research knowledge and scholarly communications (i.e., research ecosystem), developing effective AI-powered services which address a wide range of use cases in the above-mentioned areas. This is an exciting and challenging role where you will have the opportunity to work across a wide portfolio of products and have impact on them.
Senior-level engineers are preferred, but all levels may apply.
Requirements
MUST HAVE:
- BSc or MSc degree with a strong GPA in Computer Science related fields
- Solid background in Computer Science and S/W development (OOP, SQL/relational DBs, data structures and algorithms)
- Strong development skills and proficiency in Java (and / or Python)
- Strong background and experience with (at least one of) the following data engineering technologies / platforms:
- Lucene-based search engines (e.g., ElasticSearch)
- Distributed data processing using Apache Spark (Scala, or PySpark)
- Team player who enjoys working collaboratively exchanging ideas about code and solutions
- Fluency in English written & oral
- A strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
NICE TO HAVE:
- Extensive practical experience in aggregating, exploring, transforming, manipulating, processing and indexing large scale data (cleansing, normalization, linkage, ETL)
- Experience with Java or Python back-end/API development frameworks (such as Spring boot or Flask), microservices architecture, IoC/DI patterns and Containerization
- Familiarity with
- NoSQL backends & Data Warehouses (e.g., Google BigQuery)
- In memory data stores & vector-based ANN search engines (e.g., REDIS, FAISS, Milvus.io)
- Distributed message brokers / data streaming platforms (e.g., KAFKA, Google Pub/Sub)
- Background in Machine Learning and experience in one or more of the following areas: Information Retrieval, Content-based Recommendation, Text Mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Representation Learning, Deep Learning
- Proficiency in Scala
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud
- Familiarity with end-to-end S/W development life-cycle (CI/CD, A/B Testing)
- Experience with Git, Jira, MAVEN/SBT, Cloud Build or Jenkins
- Good understanding of Agile methodologies
