Your team
You will be part of the Directorate Administration in the Directorate General Corporate Services. Our Directorate is in charge of managing the ECB’s infrastructure, facilities and security management services. It also provides real estate, space and construction project management services, including coordinating the ECB’s art-related activities. We coordinate all occupational safety and health activities and steer and maintain the ECB’s environmental management system.
We are looking for trainees to join one of the following divisions:
As a trainee in the Administrative Services Division, you will join either the team responsible for infrastructure services, such as environmental management, travel, catering, cleaning and green care, waste management and the print centre services, or the team responsible for logistic services, involving meeting and event preparations, logistics, warehouse and inventory management, mail and parcel digitalisation and distribution, office furniture planning and relocation services. You will have the opportunity to analyse business data and present it to various stakeholders as well as become acquainted with the ECB’s computer-aided facility management (CAFM) system and SAP.
You will contribute to the well-being of ECB staff by supporting a range of services aimed at creating a safe, compliant and representative working environment and providing new and sustainable solutions, such as cleaning with non-chemical detergents, environmentally friendly print services or green area services supporting biodiversity.
As a trainee in the Premises Division, you will be part of the team responsible for construction project management, corporate real estate management and technical facility management. The Division manages the special requirements of the ECB by providing owned or leased buildings. Where necessary, we manage construction projects to adapt these buildings to changing requirements, liaising closely with users and service providers. We are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the buildings and the provision of audio and media services and utilities. We strive to continuously improve and optimise our buildings and services.
As a trainee in the Security and Safety Division, you will be assigned to work in either the Service Centre unit or the Security Risk Management and Governance unit.

Your role
Your tasks as a trainee will be supervised and will vary according to the team you join. They may include:
- conducting research;
- drawing up draft reports;
- compiling statistical data and data analytics;
- preparing and delivering presentations relating to the activities of your team;
- supporting data preparation, data visualisation, coding, machine learning predictions/classifications, functional support and testing;
- contributing to specific projects, e.g. EMAS certification process as part of the Green ECB team;
- supporting the change of the ECB work environment for hybrid-working;
- assisting with the Directorate’s public procurement procedures in collaboration with the ECB’s procurement department;
- supporting service and supplier performance management activities in one of our services teams and interacting with other stakeholders in the day-to-day business;
- contributing to the various activities around office furniture planning as well as planning and coordinating relocation services across all ECB buildings; this includes using the CAFM system;
- interacting with various IT Systems that support the Directorate’s activities;
- supporting changes in and enhancing space management;
- helping to improve energy reliability, maintenance planning and energy consumption;
- supporting project management activities and the execution of construction projects and activities;
- supporting market analysis of developments in the construction market, e.g. building information modelling;
- assisting to improve communication between various stakeholders;
- providing administrative support for the Service Centre procedures;
- supporting the optimisation and implementation of the security risk management framework;
- supporting the optimisation of the Division’s document management framework.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor’s degree or higher with a specialisation or focus in business or public administration, law, facility management, architecture, engineering, art, risk management, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, social sciences, environmental protection and/or sustainability management, communications, information technology, logistics, procurement or another relevant field;
- a general interest in European affairs, central banking and matters of relevance to the Directorate Administration;
- a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- advanced knowledge of the MS Office package or other tools for data management and analysis (Python, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud);
- knowledge of, and some practical experience in, one or more of the following fields: service management; quality assurance; process management or environmental standards; occupational safety and health; logistics; contract management; business and data analysis;
- the ability to interpret data; familiarity with the requirements of relevant environmental or sustainability standards and regulations, in particular ISO 14001 and/or the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS); familiarity with occupational safety and health requirements and relevant standards e.g. ISO 45001.

You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

- be a national of a Member State of the EU or of an acceding country;
- be at least 18 years old;
- have completed at least a first cycle qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree);
- be fluent in English and in another official language of the EU.
Following their most recent qualification candidates should:
- have a maximum of 12 months’ professional experience;
- have been a trainee for no more than six months;
- not have been an ECB trainee or have worked for the ECB previously.
